Paradise Valley Hospital Awarded Spring 2023 ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
Grade reflects top national performance on patient safety through COVID-19 pandemic

Paradise Valley Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare, received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This national distinction celebrates Paradise Valley’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

This is the sixth consecutive “A” grade that the hospital has been awarded in the past three years. “It takes a lot of teamwork for an organization to achieve something like this,” Paradise Valley Hospital CEO Neerav Jadeja explains. “There are a lot of moving parts, and a lot of individuals have to act in coordination to reach a common goal.” Jadeja continues, “Not to mention that this is an organization as complex as a modern acute care hospital. The professionalism and skill of the Paradise Valley Hospital staff amazes me.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Seventy-five percent of Prime Healthcare’s 45 hospitals across the country currently hold an “A” grade.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But this hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers, and clinicians who together made that possible.”

In addition to the Leapfrog grade, Paradise Valley Hospital has held the Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award since 2014, placing the hospital in the top 5% in the nation for patient safety for 10 consecutive years.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
