Many residents may not know that there is only one acute rehabilitation program serving all of South Bay. The South Bay Rehabilitation Center, located in the Paradise Valley Hospital, cares for those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury, stroke or other neurologic incidents, orthopedic injuries, amputations, and other similar diagnoses.

The South Bay Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. CARF-accredited programs pass a stringent accreditation process that ensures patients receive the highest standards of quality care and meet international performance standards.

Most people aren’t aware that they can receive acute rehabilitation care at the hospital closest to their home or family, even if they weren’t originally hospitalized there,” said Jay Flaherty, director of SBRC. “With doctor referral, we have found that many South Bay residents choose to transfer to the closest rehab facility so their family members or friends can more easily participate in their recovery.”

Another benefit of a hospital-based, CARF-accredited rehabilitation program is that if an urgent medical need arises, patients have immediate access to hospital care, which is not the case in non-hospital-based rehabilitation programs.

Flaherty also noted that SBRC has a higher-than-average rate of success in returning rehab patients back to their homes and community. To learn more about rehabilitation options, click here.
